I made a mask projector that projects the muttering mouth onto the wall. When you mutter, the lights inside blink, and thus your mouth will be projected vividly through the lens. This is an attempt to capture my mutters, which increase after moving to Berlin.
This ongoing work consists of the following parts; prototyping poetry, device, moving images, and researching the relationship between overseas nationalities and languages. In the first version, I interviewed the to-Berlin-exiled Chinese poet, Liao Yiwu, to ask about his background. In his novel, “Wuhan,” I felt sympathy for the protagonist’s loneliness, who went back to his home country, Wuhan, from Germany. As an online exhibition, I exhibited the essay film, including the background and poetry reading by the device, and the essay about the making process.
