Biography
Born in 1995. Lives and works in Kyoto, Japan. I am an artist & polyglot. A resident at HAPS Studio, Kyoto. Recently graduated from Art and Media at the Berlin University of the Arts. Based on his local research of image studies and media archaeology, kobayashi explores a new form of narrative with moving images and self-made apparatuses. His recent works focus on exophony and its narrative in perspectives of translation and identities.

He completed a Master Program in Film and New Media Studies at the Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts. His recent performance was performed at KYOTO EXPERIMENT 2025, Kyoto Art Center, Kyoto, Japan (2025). His work was selected for the New Face Award of the Art Division at the 24th Japan Media Arts Festival in 2021. His recent solo exhibition include: How to Relume Your Mind, Imageforum Cinematheque, Tokyo, Japan (2020); and his work has been included in group exhibition such as: MORE STRANGE THINGS, silent green, Berlin (2024).
1995年北海道生まれ。京都府拠点。HAPSスタジオ(京都市)にて、制作活動と芸術実践を行う。
東京藝術大学大学院映像研究科メディア映像専攻修了。公益財団法人江副記念リクルート財団 アート部門 リクルートスカラシップにより渡独。2024年にベルリン芸術大学大学院アートアンドメディア科修了。
私の制作は、「大きな制作」と「小さな制作」に分けられる。「大きな制作」では、装置と映像を通じて、エクソフォニー(「母語の外にある状態一般」の意)の新たな語りの形を再考している。近作では、移住の経験で得た、よそ者/移動者*1の視点をもとに、移動者の言語感覚*2を主題に扱う。手法としては、メディア考古学*3の観点から装置を自作し、映像や詩作を通じて、その装置を取り入れた語りを追求してきた。
「小さな制作」は、移住の経験から着想した、生活と制作の関係を考えるシリーズである。ベルリンでの移住を通して、それまで分けて捉えていた生活と制作が、地続きになった感覚を覚えた。この生活と制作の関係を、よりカジュアルに、開かれた形で考えるためのためのオルタナティブな芸術実践を「小さな制作」と呼ぶ。これまで、ポッドキャストや、セルフドキュメンタリーを通じて展開してきた。
2020年制作の「灯すための装置」が第24回文化庁メディア芸術祭アート部門新人賞を受賞。主な個展に「ポリパロール」(アートセンターBUG、東京、2024年)、パフォーマンスに「おloquさん」(KYOTO EXPERIMENT 2025、京都)など。Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2022 The Arts選出。
